Robert Cummins ’09 premiered his short film “The Hermit of Cape Fear” at the 2024 Cucalorus Film Festival, which showcases the talent and dedication of film makers from all corners of the world.
Cummins’s film follows the story of Mark, a man who is grieving over the loss of his wife, the mother of his daughter. While walking along a Fort Fisher trail, he meets the hermit. The hermit teaches Mark lessons that transcend the entity of time. Wilmington locals may recognize the landscape of Fort Fisher, scenes from downtown, and UNCW’s nature preserve in the film. Cummins utilized the appearance of different lenses while filming, allowing viewers to feel as though they are watching a movie from a different time.
In addition to the Cucalorus, Cummins is the creative director for his film company, Robert Cummins Film Co. His passion for impactful storytelling and his expertise in film production allow him to create a variety of productions which attest to his skill range.
