About the UNCW Alumni Association

Our Mission

The UNCW Alumni Association is the lead supporter in the university's strategic vision. Our purpose is to connect and involve alumni, students and friends in the promotion and advancement of the university.

The association serves all Seahawks, requiring no fee to receive benefits or participate in chapters. We engage alumni with one another, and in the life of the university and its students, through regional, affinity, reunion, student and career-based programs. We encourage alumni to get informed of opportunities to connect; be involved as event attendees, volunteers, mentors, employers and ambassadors; and invest in UNCW by giving back philanthropically.

Wise Alumni House

Wise Alumni HouseThe Wise Alumni House is one of the four cornerstones of Wilmington's historic mansion district. Renowned architect Burett H. Stevens designed the house for Delgado Cotton Mills President Edwin Cameron Holt. The 7,484 square foot home was completed in 1909 and cost $11,000 to build. In 1916, it was sold to heiress and philanthropist Jessie Kenan Wise. Miss Jessie lived there until her death at age 98 in 1968. The home was then deeded to UNC Wilmington to further the school’s charitable and education programs.

Today, the Wise Alumni House remains a beautiful, historic landmark, symbolizing the unity between the past, present and future of UNCW and the Wilmington community.

Board of Directors

The UNCW Alumni Association Board is an elected group of alumni volunteers that help guide and advise the association.

UNCW Legacy

A UNCW Legacy is a student with a parent, grandparent, aunt, uncle, cousin, sibling or spouse who has attended or is currently attending UNCW.

Legacy Students

Prospective students can indicate that they have a family member who attended or is currently attending UNCW on their admission application. The alumni engagement team uses this information to celebrate Seahawks who are making UNCW a family tradition.

Legacy Scholarships

Two Alumni Legacy Scholarships are awarded annually to incoming or currently enrolled undergraduate legacy students to recognize and honor those making UNCW a family tradition. Recipients are selected by the Awards & Scholarship Selection Committee of the association's Board of Directors and funded by the UNCW License Plate Program. The association's Awards & Scholarship Selection Committee also awards 18 other scholarships where a student's legacy affiliation is considered.

Legacy Celebrations

Families are celebrated during the Legacy Pinning Ceremony, and incoming students receive a commemorative pin. The Future Seahawks Legacy Reception on Seahawk Preview Day celebrates incoming legacy students and their families visiting campus.
