Jor-El Caraballo '07 Publishing Meditations for Black Men

October 21, 2024 | Sarah Carter '26

Jor-El Caraballo ’07, a psychology graduate, is a licensed therapist and writer who provides insight on mental health. He sees that self-care is not prioritized in Black men and uses his writing to showcase the benefits of incorporating it into one’s lifestyle.

Caraballo’s recent publication, “Meditations for Black Men,” empowers readers to connect with their emotions through mindfulness. The book includes 10 guided meditations, physical meditation practices, and affirmations. Caraballo hopes his book will instill self-confidence and change the narrative of Black masculinity.

While at UNCW, Caraballo was a member of Alpha Phi Alpha, a fraternity established for African American men. He was also awarded the senior medallion, an award which recognizes student leaders who are making an impact on campus.
