Hannah Moon ’08M, an English teacher at Emsley A. Laney High School, has been named the 2025 Burroughs Wellcome Fund Southeast Region Teacher of the Year. This title comes a little less than a year after Moon was named New Hanover County Schools Overall Teacher of the Year in January — among three other Watson graduates, also honored as educators of the year.
Over her 20-year career, Moon has served as English department chair, mentor teacher, book club advisor, and partnership teacher for pre-service educators.
A proud participant in the UNCW Master Teacher Program (2022-2025) — which honors outstanding educators who exemplify excellence in teaching — and a leader both inside and outside the classroom, her titles are well deserved.
Moon is now competing against eight other educators statewide for the 2025 North Carolina Teacher of the Year award, which will be announced later this spring. Moon is a graduate of the UNCW Watson College of Education. Learn more about Watson news, programs, events, and more.
