In July 2024, the NC Press Association (NCAP) awarded CityView, an online news organization based in Fayetteville, NC, 11 prizes for excellence in news and editorial. Earl Vaughan Jr. ’76 was among the award recipients, winning first place in the Sports Columns category for his insights into the North Carolina High School Athletic Association’s (NCHSAA) tussle with state lawmakers over political sway and the college transfer portal.
Vaughan joined CityView in 2023 as a freelance writer after retiring from The Fayetteville Observer — to which he served 48 years.
Awards were presented at the annual NC Press Association Convention in Raleigh, NC on Sept. 19, 2024. CityView Interim Editor-in-Chief, Maydha Devarajan accepted Vaughan’s award on his behalf.
