YOUR SEAHAWK EXPERIENCE

Why did you choose to attend UNCW?
  • I chose UNCW because it is not only a beautiful campus — it encapsulates the perfect college experience with amazing academics.
What does it mean to you to be a Seahawk?
  • To be a Seahawk is to walk in school pride and make sure I am living in a way that represents UNCW in a positive light.
What is your favorite place on campus?
  • I love the education building! It is my favorite place to study.
What campus student organizations are you part of (outside of Ambassadors)?
  • I am a member of Psi Chi, the honors society for Psychology students.
What is an accomplishment at UNCW that you are proud of?
  • My first semester I secured an internship with one of the professors at MARS- Memory Health Network! This has been an incredible opportunity.
How do you balance your work/school responsibilities with your personal life?
  • It has definitely been by trial and error. I am still learning when and how to allow myself time away from homework/work and knowing when enough is enough. Every semester is different!
How have you grown during your time at UNCW?
  • I have taken risks and put myself out there more than I ever have. Moving to college is definitely a culture shock but adapting is such a neat experience. I have grown more confident and responsible.
Where do you see yourself after graduation?
  • I would love to work somewhere in the criminal justice system! I am contemplating social work but also have a passion for criminal behavior. I am working on becoming bilingual so I can assist Spanish-speaking individuals who may lack resources.
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
  • Life, or anything you put yourself into, is what you make it. If you have a negative attitude toward something you will only receive negative aspects. Go into everything with an open mindset.
What advice do you have for students looking to be involved on campus?
  • Get yourself out there! I do not know where I would be without Student Ambassadors or the random friends I have made in classes. Make friends who will get involved with you — it makes everything so much more fun!

YOUR AMBASSADOR EXPERIENCE

Why did you decide to become an Ambassador with the Division of Advancement?
  • I received a flyer about Ambassadors and after reading their mission statement and interviewing I knew it was the place for me. I wanted to be a part of a student body that strived for professionalism and to give back to UNCW.
What is an accomplishment with the Ambassadors that you are most proud of?
  • I love hearing feedback on how much our volunteering helps Advancements events. It makes it special and gives me a purpose.
How has being an Ambassador set you up for success after graduation?
  • Being an Ambassador has allowed me to expand my networking while also growing my social skills. It has given me confidence in my professionalism, and practice in working with a team.
What advice would you share with your peers about getting involved with Advancement events and campaigns?
  • Do it! You can get straight A's, but if you do not network or get your name out there during undergraduate school it will be a lot harder after graduation to secure a job.
What has being an Ambassador taught you about philanthropy and giving back to UNCW (through time, talent & treasure)?
  • While being an Ambassador, I have fallen in love with Advancement events. I adore meeting the donors, scholarship recipients, etc. I find it heartwarming that most donors are alumni and UNCW has held such a big place in their hearts that they wanted to give back. I enjoy using my time to help with events for these generous people.
