Alumni Business Owners: Lourdes Perez-Montes '15, '20M and Chris Felmet '13

“The Barkington experience for a dog mimics home. The dogs are completely spoiled, like they should be. Owners feel completely settled, like they should. It works out for everybody."

A pet spa complete with memory foam mattresses seems like the place to be in Wilmington for four-legged friends. The Barkington is the city’s only custom luxury pet hotel, fully indoor day camp and spa is Seahawk owned, by Lourdes Perez-Montes ’15, '20M and Chris Felmet ’13, a couple with a powerful love for animals.

The two oversee a fully indoor facility with a 3,500-square foot day camp, which is separated into five areas. The couple believes strongly that dogs are more than just pets; dogs can be a person’s top supporter, best friend and sometimes, even a therapist.

"When we first started The Barkington, we only opened with hotel rooms and day care,” Felmet said. “We added our basic boarding, grooming and now our cage-free option. It is progressively growing, growing and growing.”
