UNCW welcomed the largest first-year class in university history and kicked off the 2023-24 academic year with its tradition-rich UNCWelcome featuring Move-In weekend, Rock the Rec, Beach Blast, Meet the Greeks Block Party and the Involvement Carnival.

Under Chancellor Aswani K. Volety's leadership, UNCW will launch its newest strategic plan: Soar High, Soar Far, Soar Together. The 10-year blueprint reflects the inclusive process used to prepare it with four pillars and 18 priorities conveying the goals and aspirations of UNCW students, faculty, staff, alumni, donors and community partners.

Seahawks will be among those celebrated during September’s Wilmington Chamber of Commerce 40 Under 40 gala. The event honors those propelling businesses, forging paths and leaving an indelible mark in Wilmington.

UNCW is now an official Purple Heart Designated University, affirming its commitment to those who have been wounded or killed by the enemy while serving to protect our freedoms. The Purple Heart Medal is the oldest military decoration and was awarded to recognize heroic acts by U.S. troops during the Revolutionary War.

For the eighth consecutive year, UNCW earned a spot in the Fiske Guide to Colleges, an authoritative source for college-bound students and their parents for 40 years. The latest entry notes UNCW’s most popular majors: nursing, business administration, communication studies, psychology and biology. The guide also highlights UNCW’s newer majors of respiratory therapy, digital arts and coastal engineering.

UNCW was selected to join the fast-growing ranks of the Carolina Cyber Network (CCN), an organization dedicated to closing the critical gap in cybersecurity workforce needs and available workers. One of the National Security Agency’s designated Centers for Academic Excellence, UNCW is a welcome addition to CCN with its emphasis on maritime cybersecurity issues and missional focus on excellence and innovation.
